About

TagCommons is a place and a process for us to create ways to share and interoperate over tagging data. We believe that the world should have the benefits of rich social tagging across applications, communities, and spaces.

The goal of this effort is to specify an agreement that specifies a common semantics and possible means for sharing or computing over tag data from heterogeneous, independently developed sources.  This is a technology stack of a conceptualization, ontologies that formally specify it, and bridges to symbol-level formats and APIs.

We are following a very simple process: identify needs, possible mechanisms, prior work, and needed work, and then do what needs to be done.

The current phase of activity is a working group of people representing many perspectives: application web site developers, web standards coordinators, ontology designers, database designers, and researchers. Archives of the Tag Commons Working Group discussion list are publicly available.

If you would like to participate, you can join the list.
