A Process
TagCommons is a collaborative, volunteer effort to get some agreements on the table quickly, to identify some needs and iterate on proposals, and ground the whole thing in applications.
The process is rather simple:
- identify use cases and requirements for sharing tag data
- identify means for meeting these requirements, such as ontologies, formats, clearinghouses, etc.
- study existing proposals and implementations of 1 & 2
- decide what needs to be done (adopt, extend, clarify, minimize, etc.)
- divide into groups to simultaneously
- specify an ontology (or a family with a core, whatever is most useful)
- specify mappings to standard formats and other ontologies
- build applications that use the ontologies and formats
- publicize, release to commons, and move on!
